With no Rainbow Six game on the immediate horizon, Tom Clancy fans will be happy to know that Ghost Recon: Future Soldier was a big part of Ubisoft’s presentation at E3 this year. The title made a significant appearance at last year’s show, but unfortunately, Ubisoft was not ready to allow the press to play the game on the E3 floor. At the time, that made us wonder if the title could be delayed from its original launch date, which is what ultimately happened....

E3 2012 had no shortage of women on hand to attract attention and draw in press, from major franchises to peripheral companies trying to drum up buzz. We’ve brought you a look at the smiling faces and…inventive costumes that have graced the floors of both E3 2010 and E3 2011, so be sure to check those out for a look at the models that were. This year’s host of informative cosplayers proved to be as friendly and talkative as ever before, with a few of our staff finding just how knowledgeable some happened to be about the games industry....

Sure, the basic concept is the same: players accompany pre-recorded music on a plastic guitar, hitting buttons to match “notes” that scroll down the screen. It’s a simple idea that relies almost entirely on the novelty controller, which provides a basic wish-fulfillment fantasy. It’s not really playing guitar, but it feels close enough. Everything else, though, is totally different. Guitar Hero Live forgoes the series’ traditional, cartoony 3D avatars for a first person view, rendered via prerecorded live action footage....

What can we expect? The Watch Dogs 2 sequel, Watch Dogs: Legion, was leaked a while ago and it was later confirmed to be a real game. We can expect more details about the London based Watch Dogs installment in the E3 panel. Ubisoft’s most recent The Division 2 is still fresh and we can probably expect some new content additions for the game. Ubisoft is also still supporting For Honor even though it didn’t take off all too well but they may give us some content updates too....

E3 2021 To Take Place Virtually E3, the major video game industry event, will take place on a virtual level this year, following all other expos since COVID hit. An Entertainment Software Association (ESA) press release, says: The event will take place online and is completely free, while also being open to everybody. If you want to find out what plans your favorite hardware or software developer has in store, then attending is a must....

Despite these issues, the free-to-play business model train continues on. The fact that free-to-play games still prove to be incredibly lucrative despite just a small amount of players spending any money on them is likely also a benefit. Considered as an inexperienced conductor, Electronic Arts tried their hand at free to play with the mobile reboot of Dungeon Keeper. Unfortunately for EA, the title was regarded as a disappointment among mobile gamers, as harsh monetization meant that the game was almost impossible to play without some sort of payment....

Of course, game simulations are not always accurate despite Madden’s 8-for-10 correctly predicted Super Bowl wins over the last decade. So, when the Madden 25 Ignite Engine dropped the ball this year, EA turned it into an opportunity to both make a good joke and take a shot at the losing team. It’s no secret that Super Bowl 48 wasn’t exactly a close competition, but that’s what Electronic Arts had predicted for this year’s game - though 2014 ended up being a total write-off....

EA Falls Victim to a Data Breach As first reported by VICE, hackers have infiltrated Electronic Arts (EA). They have stolen around 780 GB of data, including the matchmaking server code for FIFA 21 and the source code for the proprietary Frostbite game engine. Other stolen info includes software development kits (SDKs), debug tools, and API keys. In a statement, an EA spokesperson said that the company is actively working with enforcement officials and other experts as part of this ongoing criminal investigation....

Commenting on current sales, an EA spokesperson stated, “The closure of physical retail has not yet affected the sales of full games, with sales actually above where we would’ve expected them to be at this time of year.” This was highlighted with multiple games, from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s impressive milestone of 10 million unique players to Apex Legends being the most-downloaded free-to-play PS4 game of 2019. Stay at home orders have caused a surge in users on various gaming platforms, proving how popular video game escapism has become....

Gamers are likely very familiar with Electronic Arts’ matchmaking systems already, even if they don’t know it. Titles like Battlefield 2042 or the FIFA series all use some form of matchmaking to accommodate online matches between players all around the world. For the most part, though, it all happens behind the scenes and players are removed from the matchmaking process. This patent could change that. As of today, the service will be growing even further, as the company has received an influx of close to 100 new games thanks to Microsoft’s new collaboration with EA. The sports video game colossus settled a lawsuit with nearly 25,000 players, who were collectively awarded $60 million on Tuesday. Most of the athletes will receive about about $1,600 each under the settlement, after lawyers take their 30 percent cut, according to ESPN.com . Last week when responding to a fan on Twitter, Dying Light developer Techland casually revealed that it was developing a next-generation version of the 2015 action-horror title that went on to sell over 17 million copies. This comes after the developer launced Dying Light: Platinum Edition for Nintendo Switch earlier this week, which brought the original game along with all of its DLC to Nintendo consoles for the first time ever, in anticipation for Dying Light 2’s cloud version that is planned to release in 2022....
